Symptoms of laryngitis include:
- Hoarseness or raspy voice
- Voice loss
- Pain when talking
- Sore throat
- Scratchy or burning sensation low in the throat
More severe laryngitis symptoms may include:
- Difficulty swallowing
- Pain when swallowing
- Wheezing
- Vocal spasms when trying to talk
- Chronic unproductive cough or throat clearing
You should see an otolaryngologist if symptoms:
- Don’t show improvement after two weeks
- Aren’t associated with a cold or flu
- Include coughing up blood
- Cause difficulty swallowing
- Are accompanied by a fever that won’t subside
- Are accompanied by a lump in the neck
