Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. King: The 37th Annual Humanitarian Awards Program Honors Five Members of the Northwestern Medicine Workforce

On Wednesday, January 13, Northwestern Medicine celebrated the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his ongoing legacy of service during the 37th Annual Humanitarian Awards Program* at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. During the ceremony, five members of the Northwestern Medicine workforce were presented awards for their extraordinary contributions to the community and for embodying Dr. King’s legacy of humanitarianism.

This year’s Humanitarian Award recipients were:

  • Yvonne Curran, MD, Neurology, Northwestern Medical Group
  • Kevin Hunt, MD, Internal Medicine, Northwestern Medical Group
  • Misty Kirby-Nolan, APN, RN, Surgical Services, Northwestern Memorial Hospital
  • D. James Lee, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital
  • Safeya Shah, Occupational Therapy, Northwestern Medicine Warrenville
Posh Charles, vice president of community affairs for Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, delivered a keynote speech about his personal journey in community service and described the many opportunities available through Northwestern Medicine to honor Dr. King’s legacy by serving our communities and each other.
