Falls, Eye Injuries and Bee Stings: A Peek Inside the Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Medical Trailer at the BMW Championship

While the professional golfers have been competing on the course during this week’s BMW Championship, Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest physicians have been hard at workFemale doctor applying treatment at the BMW Championship treating spectators suffering from a variety of alignments including bee stings, heat related illnesses , falls, eye injuries and lacerations, said Michael Peters, MD, an emergency medicine physician and EMS medical director at Lake Forest Hospital.

“The weather has been relativity calm but anytime you have 27,000 people in one place, accidents are going to happen,” Peters said.Medical staff with security at the BMW Championship “That’s exactly why Northwestern Medicine has a comprehensive and experienced medical team on site at all times. We’re working with our local fire departments in our EMS region to ensure anyone needing medical attention will receive top care right away.” Since the tournament began on Sept. 14, four patients have been transported to Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital, Peters said. 

The Lake Forest Fire Department is coordinating the EMS operations on theMedical staff with fire department at the BMW Championship golf course and will be supported by EMS personnel from fire departments throughout Lake County. The medics on the course and the Lake Forest Hospital team in the medical trailer will have medications for most common medical emergencies, cardiac issues and traumas. Lake Forest Hospital is also providing the supplies needed for the carts, medical trailer and ambulance. Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital physicians and nurses are staffing the medical trailer as the healthcare provider on course during the BMW Championship currently underway at Conway Farms Golf Club through Sept. 20
