Alpesh A Patel MD
, co-director of the Northwestern Medicine Spine Center
, is one of only five orthopaedic surgeons in the country to be awarded the highly selective and prestigious 2015 American Orthopaedic Association’s American-British-Canadian (AOA-ABC) Traveling Fellowship. The AOA’s traveling fellowship program recognizes young leaders for their early contributions to orthopaedics while identifying and promoting their leadership skills to the broader orthopaedic community.
“I am honored to have been selected for the 2015 ABC fellowship,” said Dr. Patel, who is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
. “While it certainly is a memorable personal achievement, the ABC fellowship is also an accomplishment for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the orthopaedic faculty. Northwestern Medicine’s orthopaedic specialists have set the highest standards for academic and clinical success. The ABC fellowship is recognition, from a highly selective group of orthopaedic surgeons around the country, of those successes.
Dr. Patel and his colleagues will travel to the United Kingdom as well as South Africa and New Zealand to meet with leaders in orthopaedic surgery from around the world. He will provide expertise on cervical spine disease, minimally invasive surgery, and clinical outcomes research. Current and historic leaders of orthopaedic surgery, including the Chairmen and Presidents of numerous organizations, have been prior participants of this program.
