The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE)* has named Northwestern Memorial HealthCare among the Top 10 Nonprofits for Executive Women* for the eighth consecutive year. The list recognizes organizations that have established policies to encourage women’s advancement and follow practices that demonstrate that commitment. Included in this year’s ranking are Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital.

“We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to a culture that supports women in advancing their careers,” says Dean L. Manheimer, senior vice president of Human Resources. “We offer options such as on-site child care, tuition assistance and career flexibility to fully promote a work-life balance for all of our employees.”

To be considered for the NAFE* Top Companies or Top Nonprofits list, companies must have a minimum of two women on their board of directors as well as at least 1,000 employees. Criteria reviewed during the application process include female representation, hiring, attrition and promotion rates, and advancement programs. Special attention is also paid to women at the highest ranks and those with profit-and-loss responsibility.

At Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, 70 percent of managers are women. The organization focuses on promoting internal talent, and nearly $2 million was granted in educational assistance in fiscal year 2015. The internal Women’s Leadership Group provides further mentoring and networking opportunities to nearly 450 female managers, directors and senior executives. Programs and benefits of this group include career development, webinars, and mentoring including an annual event symposium focused on leadership and success stories from our female leaders in the industry.

Northwestern Memorial has also been recognized as one of the 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers by Working Mother* magazine for 16 consecutive years. Go here for more information on careers at Northwestern Medicine.
