Northwestern Memorial HealthCare Highlighted in Healthcare Equality Index as a Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality in 2015 and 2016
In addition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital, both Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) were recognized on this list for the first time. This recognition was awarded prior to Northwestern Medicine’s integration with KishHealth System and Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital.
NMHC earned top marks in meeting non-discrimination and training criteria that demonstrate its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients and their families.
“Fostering an environment that is equitable and inclusive for patients and employees is fundamental to our Patients First mission,” says Dean Manheimer, senior vice president of Human Resources at Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. “It is an honor to be recognized as a ‘Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality,’ now across four Northwestern Medicine hospitals. This recognition underscores our commitment to providing an inclusive environment for our workforce and outstanding care for each and every patient we are privileged to serve.”
Our four hospitals are part of a select group of healthcare facilities nationwide to be named “Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality.” Facilities awarded this title are recognized for patient and employee non-discrimination policies that specifically mention sexual orientation and gender identity, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents and LGBT health education for key staff members.
The HRC Foundation is the educational arm of the country’s LGBT civil rights organization.
The Healthcare Equality Index offers healthcare facilities unique and powerful resources designed to help provide equal care to a long-overlooked group of patients, as well as assistance in complying with new regulatory requirements and access to high-quality staff training.
