Who would know best about the top departments in the country for medical care? Physicians of course. That is why Medscape* surveyed thousands of doctors throughout the country seeking the top hospitals for treatment.

In the survey, Medscape asked 8,504 doctors in 25 different specialties including stroke for their opinion of where they would want to be treated or where they’d send a loved one for treatment of a complex or difficult condition. Reasons for choosing a certain hospital included having medically respected physician expertise (42%), a good reputation among colleagues (19%), having a specific physician at the hospital (13%), access to leading technology (10%) and low error rates (7%). The Medscape survey was conducted between December 5, 2016 and March 27, 2017.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital Comprehensive Stroke Center triple tied ninth in the country as Physicians’ Choice Hospitals for Stroke next to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Other hospitals included in the rankings; Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, John Hopkins Hospital, UCSF Medical Center, Duke University Hospital, and Stanford Health Care.

Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital has also been recognized as the first hospital in Illinois to receive approval to operate a mobile stroke unit.

“At Northwestern Medicine, our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to providing leading edge technology and research for the betterment of our patients,” said Babak Jahromi, MD, PhD, surgical director for the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Comprehensive Stroke Center. “We couldn’t be more proud of the shout out.”
