Northwestern Memorial Hospital today unveiled its comprehensive plan to expand and refresh its retail offerings in its downtown Chicago campus, welcoming health-conscious restaurateurs and well-known sellers of convenience goods. The move is not only aimed at bringing more convenience—and comfort—to patients and their visitors, but it will also serve as an inviting destination for casual healthy eating and even upscale dining for the millions of residents, visitors and workers in the area.
“We were one of the first hospitals to incorporate retail stores into a medical campus based on input from our patients and staff,” said Dean M. Harrison, president and CEO, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, parent entity to Northwestern Memorial. “Now, more than a decade later, we are pleased to have the opportunity to expand our selections to include exciting new options like unique healthy food choices. We plan to open our lobbies, common areas and provide street access to accommodate outdoor café dining and a mixture of other retail services specifically tailored for our patients, families and neighbors.”
One well-known newcomer to Northwestern’s medical campus is the Chicago-based fast casual restaurant, Protein Bar. The wildly popular chain focuses on helping people eat healthy while maintaining an active lifestyle. Another newcomer to the hospital’s campus is GRK GreekKitchen, which also features flavorful healthy eating, but with a Mediterranean twist. Both Protein Bar and GRK Greek Kitchen will reside on the second floor of Feinberg pavilion at 251 E. Huron.
