LAKE FOREST, IL – Two members of the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Center for Advanced Radiation Medicine staff are being honored for their service to the American Cancer Society/Lake County Region. Dr. Marc Posner, of Vernon Hills, radiation oncologist, received the Distinguished Service in Education Award and Karline Peal, of Highland Park, the center’s director, received the Distinguished Service Award at the society’s annual meeting in Highland Park Oct. 8.
The Distinguished Service in Education Award is given to a cancer society volunteer who has made a meaningful impact in getting the facts out about prevention, early detection and treatment.
In presenting this year’s award, Lake County Regional Director Carol Ruderman said, “ Dr. Posner has greatly enriched our educational outreach this year through his work both as chair of the newly formed Health Initiatives Council and the numerous educational presentations he has given. His willingness to share his experience and training as a radiation oncologist enables the Lake County office to deliver high-quality educational programming. He is always willing to help despite a very busy professional schedule.”
The Distinguished Service to Patients Award is given to volunteers who provide the American Cancer Society’s human touch in their direct service to patients. As this year’s recipient, Peal is being honored for her efforts to inform patients about the many cancer society services available to them. “Karline has played an integral part in the success of the Look Good, Feel Better program at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, which is one of the most successful Look Good, Feel Better programs in Lake County,” said Ruderman. “Karline is not only involved with patient services but also volunteers for the Lake Forest Relay and promotes the cancer society and its services at health fairs. She’s a wonderful volunteer with a great attitude who we are truly lucky to have.”
The Center for Advanced Radiation Medicine at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital has a proud tradition of working closely with the American Cancer Society to improve patient care. The center’s medical director, Dr. Joseph Imperato, is a past president of the society’s Illinois chapter.
