Three Years in a Row: #1 Consumer Choice in Lake and Kenosha Counties

Lake Forest Hospital September 16, 2007

LAKE FOREST, IL – Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital has been the leading hospital for quality and personal service in Lake County for generations. An independent research firm confirms what patient families have known for 108 years—that our hospital offers the best clinical expertise and the best caregivers in the region. In 2007, National Research Corporation awarded Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital the #1 Consumer Choice award for having the best doctors, best nurses, best image and best overall quality for the third year in a row.

In a second research study, both Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital and our Grayslake Outpatient and Acute Care Center had the highest reputations among all local health care facilities and were preferred by patients in the farthest reaching residential areas of the county. Our clinical excellence, warm and caring staff, and comfortable facilities allow us to maintain this long-standing reputation and offer the best possible experience for our patients. “Receiving this honor for the third consecutive year is rewarding to me because it’s an affirmation by consumers of our commitment to providing the communities we serve the highest quality health care through exceptional access to state-of-the-art clinical services with compassionate and personal care,” says President/CEO Thomas J. McAfee. “That commitment includes a relentless quest to maintain and improve our performance.” The award identifies hospitals which health-care consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in nearly 200 markets throughout the U.S. This is the 12th year NRC has awarded hospitals whose consumers have recognized them for providing quality health-care services and the third year that the Lake/Kenosha county market has been surveyed.

“Consumers play an increasing role in selecting their health-care facilities and services,” says NRC Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Hays. “As more information on the quality of health care is made publicly available, we expect this trend to increase. These organizations are selected for the Consumer Choice Awards by the community residents they serve. We are pleased to honor these facilities for their dedication to quality health care in the eyes of their patients.”

Other 2007/08 Consumer Choice award winners include Condell Medical Center (Lake/Kenosha counties co-winner this year), Northwestern Medicine  Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Froedtert Memorial Hospital and Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center (co-winners) in Milwaukee and Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Ill.

The 2007/08 Healthcare Market Guide is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive study of its kind. No other study used to measure hospital performance and preferences contains more consumer responses than NRC’s study. The study has a margin of error of + or – 0.2 percent at a national level. Co-winners are named when scores fall within the statistical margin of error for a given market.
