Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists
Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital July 13, 2010
LAKE FOREST, IL – The Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Laboratory was awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent onsite inspection.
Richard J. Clatch, MD, PhD, is director of the laboratory, which has several different divisions, including Pathology, Hematology and Microbiology. Forty-four medical technologists and six pathologists staff Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital’s two laboratories in Lake Forest and Grayslake. Most bodily samples obtained in the hospital locations are tested in these labs.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and the overall management of the laboratory. The stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
