Experienced Physicians Join New Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group
Lake Forest Hospital June 22, 2011
LAKE FOREST, IL – The practice provides local patients with access to the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group network at 14 of its locations. NMPG-Lake Forest currently includes three primary care physicians and will continue to expand.
The first physician to join the new office, David Vigder, MD, is a primary care internist who is board certified in Internal Medicine. Vigder specializes in adult medicine and brings more than a dozen years of experience and personalized patient care to the practice.
Vigder joined the NMPG after practicing independently in Lake Forest for 13 years. “The timing for the move was right, and I’m looking forward to building upon the new opportunities I’m able to offer my patients as a member of the group,” Vigder said.
Vigder studied philosophy at Emory University and graduated from medical school at The Ohio State University. He completed his residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
Also joining the NMPG-Lake Forest practice is primary care internist Rachel Oosterbaan, MD. Oosterbaan relocated from a downtown Chicago NMPG practice. She is a board certified physician with 13 years of experience, specializing in cancer screening, including breast and colorectal cancer, cardiovascular diseases and travel medicine. She is known for the detailed attention she gives to each of her patients.
Oosterbaan attended Wayne State University Medical School and completed her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Harvard Medical School).
A third physician to join the practice is Susan Shaw, MD. Shaw is a board certified gynecologist, practicing for 11 years. Her clinical specialties include pediatric gynecology, adolescent gynecology, menopause and gynecologic surgery. Shaw emphasizes patient education in her practice, ensuring her patients are informed and involved in every step of their care.
Shaw attended Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where she currently holds an appointment as a clinical instructor. She completed her residency at the Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women's Hospital.
As part of the NMPG, the practice provides several unique services, including an electronic medical record system that connects patients and doctors to all NMPG offices, including both Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago. The system allows patients to connect with their physicians through a secure online “patient portal,” where they can request lab results, medication refills and appointments. Patients with certain medical conditions can also consult with their doctors online for increased communication.
The Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group has more than 100 primary care physicians with offices in Chicago, Lake Forest and Northbrook. The addition of the Lake Forest location will accommodate the needs of a growing patient base seeking Northwestern Medicine specialists after Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital became an affiliate partner with Northwestern Memorial HealthCare in 2010.
