Hospital and Community Join Together to Celebrate Grand Opening of Grayslake Expansion
Northwestern Medicine Grayslake Outpatient Center April 14, 2011
GRAYSLAKE, IL – Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital has completed its Grayslake campus expansion after three years of planning and construction. The $49 million development boasts 7,500 square-feet of renovation and an additional 70,900 square-feet of new construction, including a state-of-the-art Outpatient Surgery Center, opening this month, and a Cancer Center, which opened in October 2010.
Lake Forest Hospital staff and patients and local officials gathered to mark the completion of the project and celebrate the benefits the new facilities will bring to the community.
“The population of Lake County is growing, and residents need advanced outpatient medical care close to home,” said Thomas J. McAfee, Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital President. “With the shift toward outpatient care, the expansion brings the care and convenience that this community needs. And, as an affiliate of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, we have expanded access to Northwestern Medicine advanced medical care to a broader region in the Chicagoland area.”
The newly-opened Surgery Center brings many benefits to Grayslake and its surrounding communities, including added jobs, appealing facilities and increased services.
“The completion of the Surgery Center is a great achievement and an important investment for our hospital, our patients and our community,” McAfee said. “We are always striving to improve our campuses and bring more advanced services to our patients, and we are excited about this expansion.”
The Surgery Center’s first procedure will take place during late April in one of the four new 500 square-foot operating suites. All suites are equipped with the most advanced surgical equipment available, and patients will recover in ten private post-operation rooms equipped with flat-screen televisions and electronic medical record stations.
In addition to outpatient surgery, the expansion brings accessible, comprehensive cancer care to Grayslake. The 8,750 square-foot Cancer Center that opened last fall boasts top-of-the-line radiation equipment as well as offers chemotherapy and infusion treatments, with private and social treatment rooms and convenient adjacent parking. With access to leading medical care close to where they live and work, patients are able to manage treatments conveniently while continuing their normal routines.
“The Cancer Center is a tremendous asset to this community,” said Joseph Imperato, MD, FACR, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital. “We have delivered cutting edge care to our patients by providing them with expert physicians using the most advanced technology. This is a unique service for a community hospital.”
Along with the new facilities and top-rated physicians, the Cancer Center also offers multiple support groups, wellness and nutrition services, rehabilitation facilities and social work services to provide personalized attention and holistic care for patients.
In addition to the newly opened outpatient Surgery Center and Cancer Center, Northwestern Medicine Grayslake also offers advanced diagnostic imaging, laboratory, cardiac testing, physical and speech therapy, as well as an Emergency Center that treats 32,000 patients annually.
