John R. Andrews, MD, Stephen W. Ganshirt, MD, and Kim R. Sobinsky, MD, Join Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation

LAKE FOREST, IL – Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital (NLFH) is pleased to announce the members of Surgeons Group, SC, have joined the faculty of Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. General surgeons Stephen Ganshirt, MD, Kim Sobinsky, MD, and John R. Andrews, MD, a general surgeon with colon-rectal surgical subspecialty training, have been providing exemplary care to patients in Chicago’s northern suburbs for 25 years. The surgeons will maintain their office on the campus of Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital and offer surgical services at both the hospital and Northwestern Medicine Grayslake new Surgery Center in Grayslake, Illinois.

John R. Andrews, MD, FACS, earned his bachelor’s degree from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, and completed medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Illinois Hospitals, where he served as chief resident and earned the best resident teacher award. He completed his fellowship in Colon-Rectal Surgery at Cook County Hospital, where he also performed research in the Trauma Unit Laboratory. For 25 years, he has been treating patients at Lake Forest Hospital, where he is former vice chairman of the Department of Surgery and former president of the medical staff. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
Stephen W. Ganshirt, MD, FACS, received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and completed medical school at Loyola University of Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Providence Hospital, Southfield, Michigan, where he served as chief resident. He has been an attending physician at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital for 17 years. He has served as chairman of the Department of Surgery, director of the Breast Care Center and trauma director at Lake Forest Hospital, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Ganshirt and his wife, Linda, have 3 children and live in Lake Forest.
Kim R. Sobinsky, MD, FACS, earned his bachelor’s degree at Illinois Wesleyan University and his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Illinois Hospital. He served on the faculty of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, as a research assistant in the University of Illinois Department of Surgery’s Division of Peripheral Vascular Surgery, as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Lake Forest Hospital, and as an attending physician at NLFH for 25 years. Dr. Sobinsky has served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He is currently president of the Lake Forest Hospital medical staff. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
