Event introduces Chicago magazine’s most eligible singles and benefits research and therapies for stroke patients at Northwestern Memorial Hospital

CHICAGO, IL – The Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Chicago Magazine will introduce the magazine’s most eligible singles for 2012 at the 12th annual Summer Lovin’ party. The event will be held on Friday, June 15, at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), 220 East Chicago Avenue, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Master of ceremonies duties will be shared by NBC 5 weekend morning anchor Stefan Holt and meteorologist Cheryl Scott.

Typically attended by more than 1,000 young professionals, Summer Lovin’ will be an evening filled with delicious food from leading Chicago restaurants, cocktails, and outstanding entertainment, as well as access to the MCA’s eclectic exhibits. Attendees will have the chance to participate in a raffle for a luxurious Hawaiian vacation and a fabulous silent auction. Proceeds from the event will support research and therapies for stroke patients at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

“We are thrilled to continue to support research and therapies for stroke patients at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Thanks to our partner, Chicago magazine, we are able to produce Summer Lovin', the single best event of the summer!” said Laura Beres, president of the Auxiliary Board. “Our sponsors and the magazine's featured singles provide Chicago's young professionals with an unforgettable evening of food, drinks, and fun.”

In 2011, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Northwestern Medicine Neurology and Neurological Surgery Programs 12th nationwide. Northwestern Memorial Hospital also ranks number one in Chicago in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” metro area rankings. The Auxiliary Board has pledged its support to an innovative research study exploring how, why and when bleeding in the brain results in ischemic stroke, or loss of blood flow to a part of the brain.

Under the leadership of Andrew Naidech, MD, MSPH, medical director of the neuro/spine ICU at Northwestern Memorial, researchers will work to identify effective treatment options for this type of stroke in order to prevent serious complications in patients’ physical health and quality of life.

“The support of the Auxiliary Board helps advance our research and find better treatment options for stroke patients,” said Naidech, also an associate professor of neurology, neurological surgery and anesthesiology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. “The board’s contributions and funds collected through the Summer Lovin’ event will provide the means for continued research and advancements in the care of ischemic stroke.”

The Auxiliary Board is in their second year of a $100,000 commitment to benefit research and therapies for stroke patients.

Tickets are available and cost $85 if purchased by June 14 or $95 at the door. A limited number of VIP tickets are also available for an additional $20. Attire for the event is casual chic.
