Dean Harrison Elected Chair-Elect of Illinois Hospital Association Board

CHICAGO, IL – Dean Harrison, president and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, has been elected chair-elect of the 2014 Illinois Hospital Association’s (IHA) Board of Trustees. Harrison, a board of trustees member since 2008, will assume the position on Jan. 1, 2014.
Harrison is the current chair of IHA’s Finance and Audit Committee, and will chair both the Finance and Audit Committee and Transforming Illinois Health Care Task Force in 2014. Harrison has been part of IHA’s Executive Committee since 2011 and served as this year’s Treasurer for the IHA Board of Trustees. Active in IHA since 1998 when he first joined Northwestern Memorial, Harrison first served on IHA’s Committee on Nominations and Policy Council.
The IHA Board of Trustees is the Association’s policymaking body. The Board is made up of 31 trustees, including 15 at-large trustees elected by the voting members of the Association, nine regional trustees elected directly by the regions, six elected officers (chair, chair-elect, immediate past chair, immediate past, past chair, treasurer, and secretary), and the Association’s president and CEO ex-officio. Constituency sections, councils and ad hoc task forces provide members with opportunities to participate in the Association’s policy development process.
B’nai B’rith International presented Harrison with the National Healthcare Award in 2008. He was honored by the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency and the Chicago Minority Enterprise Development Council with the 2010 CEO Leadership Circle of Excellence Award for Diversity.
Besides serving on IHA’s Board, Harrison currently serves on the Member Board of Directors of the University HealthSystem Consortium, Board of Directors of the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, Board of Directors of World Business Chicago, Board of Directors of the Executive’s Cluband is a special advisor to Merrick Ventures. He is a former Chairman of the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council Board of Directors. He is a member of The Economic Club of Chicago, The Commercial Club of Chicago, The Institute of Medicine of Chicago and the Business Leadership Group for Workforce Chicago 2.0.
