LAKE FOREST, IL – Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital celebrated today the opening of the new access road from Route 41 into the hospital campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by hospital staff and local leaders. The new access road attaches Route 41 to the existing Westmoreland Road that runs along the perimeter of the campus. The road will be officially open for motorists at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23.
“The new access road offers a safe entrance from Route 41 directly onto the campus near the site for our new hospital facility, and will improve the circulation of traffic near our surrounding campus entrances,” said Thomas J. McAfee, president of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. The new access road is part of an overall campus revitalization project that is planned for the hospital. The City of Lake Forest Plan Commission approved the Campus Master Use Plan last year, and then named a Hospital Advisory Committee to work closely with the hospital’s project team to provide guidance on the design of a replacement hospital facility and landscaping plans. The Hospital Advisory Committee includes Lake Forest residents Susan Garrett, Craig Bergmann, Ed Chandler, John Sentell, Rafael Carreira, Stephen Wright, Charles Kohlmeyer, Jeffrey Gannon and Augie Ziccarrelli. Members of the Advisory Committee attended the ribbon-cutting, along with local leaders from the Lake County Village Board, Lake Forest City Council and the Lake Forest Police and Fire Departments.
“This new road is important to residents of Lake Forest because it will ease traffic to and from the hospital,” said Donald P. Schoenheider, mayor of the City of Lake Forest. “Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital has worked very closely with our Plan Commission and the Advisory Council to ensure that the new hospital building and campus will be a world-class hospital that fully serves the health needs of our community while maintaining the unique aesthetic of our community.” The hospital presented detailed plans to the Plan Commission earlier this fall that must be approved by both the Plan Commission and the full City Council. The Plan Commission is expected to vote on the plans at its next meeting on December 11.
