Hip fracture mortality rate
Hip fracture is a broken or damaged hip. They are common among elderly people, and they are a common cause of functional decline and ill health, which can increase risk of death.
Complications of hip fracture can lead to a relatively high mortality rate. While some patients have higher risks than others, some of these complications may be preventable. A lower death rate may indicate that a hospital provides a higher level of patient care.
About this measure
Mortality rate is the statistical measure of the number of people who die. Hip fracture mortality rate tracks the number of patient deaths in the hospital per 100 patients with a hip fracture.
Note: In this case, a lower number is better.
