Pancreatic resection (pancreas surgery) mortality

Pancreatic resection is the surgical removal of tissue from the pancreas. This is often done to remove cancerous tumors.

A pancreatic resection requires technical skill. Complications of pancreatic resection can lead to a relatively high death rate.  While some patients have higher risks than others, some of these complications may be preventable. A lower death rate may indicate that a hospital provides a higher level of patient care.

About this measure

Mortality rate is the statistical measure of the number of people who die. Pancreatic resection mortality rate tracks the percentage of patients who had a pancreatic resection who died.

In this case, a lower number is better.
