Average time in ED for patients with broken bones to receive pain medication
Why is this measure important?
Broken bones can be very painful and pain medication can make the patient more comfortable and reduce their stress. Reducing the time patients wait for pain medication can improve their comfort.
What does this measure show?
This measure shows the median number of minutes Emergency Department patients (2 years and older) with a broken arm or leg wait before they are given pain medication.
Definition of median: This is the half-way point in the data. One-half of patients spent less than this time, and one-half spent longer.
For this measure, a lower number is better.
