Preventing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections (Leapfrog Group)

The descriptions for this measure come from source: www.leapfroggroup.org.

"Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to (cannot by killed by) many antibiotics. MRSA can be found in bed linens or medical equipment and can be spread if providers do not properly wash their hands between patients. MRSA can cause life-threatening bloodstream infections, pneumonia and surgical site infections."

About this measure

A hospital fully meets standards if the number of MRSA infections that actually happened is less than or equal to the number of infections that were expected to happen at this hospital.

Scores are reported as:

1 = Willing to Report
2 = Some Progress
3 = Substantial Progress
4 = Fully Meets Standards

Note: In this case, a higher number is better.
