Patients who developed a blood clot while in the hospital who did not get treatment that could have prevented it
Why is this measure important?
Hospital staff should frequently assess all patients to determine the patient’s risk of developing blood clots. Patients who are at risk of developing a blood clot should have preventive treatment, which may include compression stockings, blood thinners, and/or other medicines.
What does this measure show?
This measure shows the percentage of patients who developed blood clots while in the hospital and who did not receive preventative treatment beforehand.
For this measure, a lower number is better.
