Global Health Initiative Education

The Center for Global Health integrates global health education programming and faculty research initiatives within Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and encourages students, residents and fellows at Feinberg to engage in global health in a meaningful way via research projects, supervised clinical rotations, and public health projects.  Our medical trainees are able to visit both affiliated and unaffiliated locations and are eligible to apply for stipends to support their travel, as well as elective and research credit.




  • Over 800 medical trainees have traveled to 38 low-resource countries
  • 18 global partner sites
  • 91% of students agreed or strongly agreed that the global health program was a valuable educational experience
  • 72% found their global health elective to be challenging
  • 77% visited a resource-limited setting
  • 97% would recommend the global health program to another student

If you are a Feinberg School of Medicine student in good standing, you are encouraged to apply for funding to travel and study in under-resourced countries any time during your four years of education at Northwestern University.
