While providing quality care has always been a priority at Lake Forest Hospital, it is only recently that, across the country, patients, employers, insurers, physicians, hospitals, government agencies and numerous other entities began defining the quality of care provided by healthcare practitioners within their respective organizations. Since the beginning of 2006, Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, with direction from its Board of Directors and its President, Thomas J. McAfee, has implemented countless process improvement initiatives and has seen incredible outcomes as a result. 

As of March 15, 2011, Lake Forest Hospital has been re-accredited by the Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit organization that surveys the safety and quality of care of more than 15,000 healthcare organizations around the nation by arriving unannounced every three years.

Patient Satisfaction

The journey toward becoming the hospital of choice for the communities we serve begins and ends with the interactions we have with the patients who come through our doors. With the help of Press Ganey, a nationally recognized surveyor of patient satisfaction, we are able track our patients’ opinions about our employees and the services we provide.

Core Measures

Core Measures, often known as “Care Measures,” are indicators that show, as a percentage, how well a healthcare organization is providing the recommended care. These are generally accepted as the best methods for delivering the safest and highest quality results to patients.

National Patient Safety Goals

The Joint Commission created the National Patient Safety Goals to help improve outcomes in hospitals and reduce risks in the healthcare setting.

Infection Control

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have estimated that approximately 2 million patients within acute care facilities acquire infections unrelated to the reasons for which they were originally brought to the facility. Infection Control is a metric designed to measure and control the spread of infections associated with the care of our patients.
