A Magnet Organization

The nurses at Northwestern Memorial Hospital are among the best in the nation. Magnet status is awarded to organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice, exemplary quality outcomes, and an environment that fosters shared leadership and decision-making. In 2015, Northwestern Memorial achieved a second Magnet redesignation.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in June 2006, and was redesignated for another four years in December 2010 and again in August 2015. Only six percent of hospitals nationally have achieved this honor and status, and only three percent of hospitals have achieved redesignation.

Research shows that Magnet organizations outperform other hospitals through:

  • Increased retention
  • Higher job satisfaction
  • Improved patient care and safety
  • Higher patient satisfaction
