Hospice Offers Volunteer Orientation and Training Class Starting April 26 at Valley West Hospital
Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital March 16, 2016
Direct care volunteers are an integral part of an interdisciplinary team serving terminally ill individuals and their families. The goal of the team is to help each person enjoy the best quality of life possible. Important characteristics of direct care volunteers include compassion, flexibility, ability to listen, desire to make a difference and enrich the lives of others.
The class will provide an overview of the history and philosophy of hospice, as well as help class members learn how to respond to the social, emotional and spiritual needs of the terminally ill and their families. Additionally, class members will receive guidance and support while exploring issues involved in the dying and grieving processes.
A registration fee of $20 helps cover the cost of materials. Scholarships are available. Advance registration by Friday, April 22 is necessary. To register or for further information, call Sue A. Goudy, Volunteer/Transitions coordinator, at 815.756.3000. Learn more about KishHealth System Hospice.
