Preconception Evaluation

Preconception Evaluation

Women who are diagnosed with cardiac disease should undergo a complete preconception evaluation, which includes defining the initial cardiac problem, assessing baseline cardiac function prior to a pregnancy, and exploring all prior cardiac treatments, including surgery. Prior cardiac treatments, such as the surgical placement of an artificial valve, may complicate future pregnancies.

If you are a woman with cardiac disease that is contemplating pregnancy, exercise can help reduce the risk of complications. Consult your physician before beginning activity.
