Preconception Evaluation
Preconception Evaluation
Pregnancy places unique demands on the mother's circulatory system. This may cause problems if she has underlying heart disease. Cardiac changes due to pregnancy may cause heart problems to start, or an existing heart problem may affect the pregnancy.
Before getting pregnant, patients who are part of the Northwestern Medicine Heart Disease and Pregnancy Program will complete a preconception evaluation. This will help promote a healthy pregnancy.
During this visit, your healthcare provider will:
- Discuss your heart health
- Measure your baseline heart function
- Review your past heart treatments, including procedures or surgeries
