Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis

Symptoms of ulcerative colitis vary from person to person and from one day to another, as remission and flare-ups are common. Symptoms may include: 

  • Frequent diarrhea
  • Blood and pus in stools
  • Fecal urgency
  • A feeling that the bowels haven’t emptied completely
  • Abdominal pain and cramping
  • Rectal pain and bleeding
  • Anemia (lack of healthy red blood cells)
  • Severe fatigue
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Skin sores
  • Joint pain
  • Failure to thrive in children
