Expert Evaluations

- Strength
- Ability to feel and move
- Walking and standing
If you have vestibular issues, a vestibular-trained physical therapist will evaluate you.
Therapy for Balance Issues
Balance issues are caused by problems that affect your body’s stability, such as muscle weakness and neurological conditions. You may feel unsteady, have trouble walking or fall often.
Physical therapy aims to help you keep balance while improving your ability to stand and walk.
Your care plan may include working to:
- Improve flexibility in your ankles and hips, and your ability to move them
- Strengthen your hips, knees and ankles
- Walk faster safely
- Balance better while standing and walking
- Step over obstacles
- Move backwards and sideways, and turn
Therapy for Vestibular Conditions
Your vestibular system is in your inner ear. It helps you balance, move your eyes and be aware of your body and objects around you.
Vestibular disorders can cause dizziness and vertigo (a spinning feeling). The most common cause of spinning feelings is an inner ear condition called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPVV).
Your care plan will likely aim to help you:
- Lessen or stop vertigo and dizziness
- Help you focus on objects when you move
- Restore coordination of your eye and head movements
- Balance while standing and walking
Therapy can help lessen many vestibular symptoms. If you have complex issues, such as issues seeing, feeling, balancing or thinking, we’ll work with you to lessen symptoms and improve your abilities.
