At Northwestern Medicine, our patient’s feedback is important to us. While different care providers have their own unique strengths, we strive to be as transparent as possible with our quality of care.
Dr. Shepard was the first Doctor to diagnose, treat and manage the terrible neuropathic pain that I have in my feet and calves. He also corresponds on my chart on a timely basis always replying within the day I send a message. I am eternally grateful for this Doctor, he has given me a standard of living that is normal. I had suffered with this for 10 years before finally finding Dr. Shepard. I pray for him daily.
It can be difficult to find a solution to any medical condition and what works for one patient doesn't mean it will work on others. Dr. Shepard is very patient in finding a solution to my condition. I appreciate his patience and time he has spent in finding alternatives for me.
Dr. Shepard takes the time to truly explain things, he is also extremely responsive on the patient portal which is a huge help in saving time of calling the office for simple questions for next steps in my care.
I place Dr. Shepard in the highest category of physicians. His style is pertinent, focused and attentive. He engages in productive dialog, listens, asks relevant questions and takes thorough notes. He provided me with an initial evaluation and ordered follow-up tests to confirm his observations.
I was very impressed by Dr. Shepard. I felt like I wasn't able to very clearly describe my symptoms, but he was patient with me (and not a bit condescending) and asked great questions to elicit the information he needed. He took me seriously - especially when I described a separate issue I've had for years, that all other doctors I've talked to about it have been dismissive of - he immediately gave me a suggestion of what it might be, what to do about it, and said he wouldn't have been very satisfied with the kinds of responses I've gotten in the past! I was really impressed with his communication skills.
Dr. Shepard is excellent at what he does. I understand why is he so booked. thank you DR. shepard for a great appt abd taking the time to take good care of a first time patient. makes a great difference!
Dr never looked at me. Spoke only with my husband, even tho I was the patient. Spoke very fast so that I understood very little of what he was saying (I'm hard of hearing). Made me feel like I didn't really need to be there. Rushed us out at the end like he had to be somewhere, even tho we were ahead of schedule.
First impression...very busy MD. He had to take a call in the middle of our conversation. Not to be taken against him. If I was the patient involve on the other end, I would like him to drop what he is doing too to respond to the call. He excused himself.
I used to have very high marks for this doctor, however, his lack of concern and engagement on this visit has me seeking a second opinion as I do not feel confident he even paid attention to what my concerns were.
Dr. Shepard is great, but my limited knowledge compared to his extensive knowledge leaves my head spinning a bit when I leave. However, when I think of all of my questions after the fact, he's very responsive and helpful via MyChart.
My only request would be is for Dr. Shepard not to check his phone several times during a visit. He was receiving multiple text messages and would be looking at his phone while speaking to me. He seemed distracted. I have confidence in his knowledge but when you are attending to a patient you should give them your undivided attention.
My son has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal but he really likes Dr. Shepard as do I, his mother and legal guardian. Dr. Shepard always makes him feel very comfortable and he is very kind. In fact this time he even went and got one of the other staff who wanted to say hi to my son! My son has know this staff person for years, and he really likes her! This made him SO happy! It was exceptionally kind of both staff and Dr. Shepard!
The doctor provided the same advice and medications as every other time I've seen him. I expressed concerns about the side effects of one medication and he wasn't able to provide any suggestions or alternative therapies and/or medications. While I believe that he is a good doctor, this is a frustrating result as migraines affect a good portion of my life.
Very good experience. I was very pleased with the visit with Dr.Alan Shepard. I had gotten his name from the internet so had no expectations regarding his care. He listened, follow through calling my primary care doctor. He spent 15 minutes with my doctor discussing what to do to eliminate the rushing sound in my ears, The room was clean and up to Northwestern standards.
Dr. Shepard is excellent; he helped diagnose my meningioma in 2012 so that is why I came back to him with my concerns at present. He speaks in a very easy to understand manner and is very approachable.
