Pie doesn’t have to get in the way of a healthy diet.

According to Bariatric Dietitian Audra Wilson, RD, LDN, Northwestern Medicine Delnor Metabolic Health and Surgical Weight Loss Center, there’s room for pie — modified and in moderation — in every diet.

“If you’re planning on pie for dessert, limit your carbs at the meal preceding your treat. Avoid skipping meals to enjoy pie, as you’re setting yourself up for overeating later,” says Wilson. “Take a small slice and enjoy it! Don’t rush through it. Take the time to smell, admire and taste the pie and all of its flavors.”

Pie is easy to freeze, so portion out some slices to store in the freezer for later.
