Pathology

Pathology tests occur behind-the-scenes in a laboratory, but they are an important part of your breast cancer treatment, as they help your team learn more about your cancer so that they can treat it most effectively. Pathology tests also determine if the mass in your breast is cancerous or not.

Pathology tests you may undergo during breast cancer treatment include evaluation of:

  • Core needle biopsy specimens
  • Large surgical breast specimens from excisions, re-excisions and mastectomies.

Your breast pathology team may also perform a state-of-the-art analysis of your breast tumor to get a clearer picture of your prognosis.
