Northwestern Medicine is a national leader in the treatment and care of adults living with or at-risk for HIV. Expert clinical services cover:

• Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
• Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)
• Antiretroviral therapy
• Management of opportunistic infections
• Treatment of pregnant women with HIV
• Prevention of perinatal transmission

We are also at the forefront of the emerging field of HIV Aging that combines clinical and social tools to achieve healthy aging among the growing population of older people living with HIV (PLWHIV). The multidisciplinary team available to our patients includes:

• Infectious Diseases-trained physicians
• Nurse practitioners
• Pharmacists with specialization in Infectious Diseases
• Social workers

This team closely collaborates with Northwestern Medicine specialists from neurology, cardiology, hepatology, hematology and oncology, psychology, and obstetrics and gynecology. These focused HIV interests extend our ability to provide the best care for the range of health challenges confronted by our patients.

Our overarching goal is to provide care that is responsive to the needs of each individual, and work with PLWHIV to achieve and maintain health that is equal to that of persons who are not infected with HIV. This pursuit is facilitated by active community engagement and access to clinical trials of novel antiretroviral strategies and other interventions that will shape the future of HIV Medicine.
