Transorbital Surgery (Through the Eye Socket)

Transorbital surgery is performed by oculoplastic surgeons and neurosurgeons working together. Transorbital surgery can address brain tumors that are behind the eyes or in the skull base near the sinuses. The surgeons work as a team and can go around the eye ball to gain access to the tumor. They may use an endoscope to help provide the best view of the tumor.

This procedure is typically performed through an incision in an eyelid crease, which heals very well. It can prevent the need for very long incisions behind the hairline that would be needed to reach the same place.
