You may have symptoms before, during or after you’re diagnosed with cancer.

Symptoms may include:

  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Joint pain or arthritis
  • Trouble walking or balancing
  • Loss of muscle coordination or tone
  • Loss of fine motor skills
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Slurred speech or stuttering
  • Memory loss and cognitive impairment
  • Vision changes
  • Fatigue
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Night sweats
  • Seizures
  • Hallucinations
  • High calcium levels

These symptoms can seem like signs of other conditions, so it’s important to talk to your care team about them.

Recognizing paraneoplastic syndromes early may lead to an earlier cancer diagnosis. Treatment is usually more effective when cancer is found early. This can lead to better outcomes and a better quality of life.
