Our Care and Services

Our psychologists recognize and treat mental illness and common emotional reactions to:

  • Strokes
  • Brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Neuromuscular disorders

Psychology services can start during your inpatient rehabilitation stay at Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital or the Woodstock Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital. They can remain part of your care after you leave the hospital.

If you are receiving inpatient rehabilitation care, your psychologist is part of your team. They will work closely with other clinicians to create a treatment plan to fit your needs. They can also collaborate with your physician or psychiatrist, who will help manage your medications. If you need more support, your psychologist can also refer you to other clinicians and help you learn about other resources in your community.

Our team of psychologists, specializing in rehabilitation, have expertise in:

  • Health psychology
  • Neuropsychology
  • Geriatrics
  • Pediatrics

Your psychologist will:

  • Teach you to recognize problems and respond more effectively.
  • Measure your capabilities and help plan your treatment.
  • Work with your care team to find the best approach for your physical recovery and emotional healing.
  • Refer you to other clinicians, if needed.
  • Continue to support you after you leave the hospital.
