Neuromodulation

Neuromodulation is a group of advanced pain management procedures used in patients who have pain despite treatment with medication, physical therapy, surgery and spinal injections.

A type of neuromodulation, neurostimulation works by changing pain signals as they travel to the brain. Using an implantable device, or neurostimulator, it delivers electrical stimulation to the spinal cord, dorsal root ganglion (a cluster of nerve cells in a dorsal root of in the spinal cord) and brain. This can change the way you feel certain types of pain.

Many of these implants and devices are compatible with an MRI machine, but not all of them. If an MRI is important for your medical care, talk to your physician about what device would be best for you.
