Nurses Help Support the Goals of Northwestern Medicine

Through integration of the interprofessional practice model based on relationship-based care and strategies to meet the goals of Northwestern Medicine, nursing professionals at McHenry Hospital and Woodstock Hospital look toward the strategic goals of Northwestern Medicine.

Northwestern Medicine Goal No. 1: Deliver World-Class Care and Experience

  • Nursing Goal: Achieve exemplary patient outcomes through the elevation of professional practice.
  • Objectives:
    • Embed evidence-based practice and nursing professional practice standards into our culture to enhance patient outcomes.
    • Invest in the leadership development of nurses at all levels.
    • Enhance the coordination of care through interprofessional collaboration.

Northwestern Medicine Goal No. 2: Advance Discovery and Medical Knowledge

  • Nursing Goal: Foster a culture of interprofessional innovation, research, evidence-based practice and continuous learning.
  • Objectives:
    • Formalize infrastructure for the interprofessional team members to perform research, innovation and evidence-based practice.
    • Integrate and leverage nursing expertise to optimize technology and improve efficiency.

Northwestern Medicine Goal No. 3: Provide a Superior Work Environment

  • Nursing Goal: Enculturate a safe, caring and healthy work environment.
  • Objectives:
    • Enhance collaborative interprofessional partnerships to mitigate disruptive patient and family behavior.
    • Extend key improvement initiatives related to flexible work environments for nurses at all levels.
    • Foster an environment that supports psychological safety limiting physical and emotional risk (lateral violence).

Northwestern Medicine Goal No. 4: Deepen Relationships With Our Community

  • Nursing Goal: Advocate for the health of communities across the continuum of care.
  • Objective:
    • Learn from Community Health Needs Assessments distributed to patients to advance strategies to improve the health of people in the communities we serve.

Northwestern Medicine Goal No. 5: Fund Our Mission and Reinvest in the Enterprise

  • Nursing Goal: Cultivate fiscal stewardship and sustainability in nursing.
  • Objectives:
    • Optimize nursing engagement in the use of sustainable resources.
    • Use staff engagement data to develop and implement recognition efforts to improve retention.
    • Partner with the Finance team to optimize safe care delivery models (labor productivity, staffing, etc.).
