McHenry Hospital Nursing Strategic Roadmap

Through integration of the interprofessional practice model based on Relationship-Based Care® and strategies to meet the goals of Northwestern Medicine, nursing professionals at McHenry Hospital look toward the strategic goals of Northwestern Medicine.

NM Goal 1: Deliver World Class Care and Experience

  • Nursing Goal: Achieve Exemplary Patient Outcomes through the Elevation of Professional Practice (Quality/Safety/Experience)
    Objectives: Embed evidence-based practice and nursing professional practice standards into our culture to enhance patient outcomes. Invest in the leadership development of nurses at all levels. Enhance the coordination of care through interprofessional collaboration.

NM Goal 2: Advance Discovery and Medical Knowledge

  • Nursing Goal: Forster a Culture of Interprofessional Innovation, Research, Evidence-Based Practice and Continuous Learning
    Objectives: Formalize infrastructure for the interprofessional team members to perform research, innovation, and evidence-based practice. Integrate and leverage nursing expertise to optimize technology and improve efficiency.

NM Goal 3: Provide a Superior Work Environment that Promotes Wellbeing

  • Nursing Goal: Enculturate a Safe, Caring and Healthy Work Environment
    Objective: Enhance collaborative interprofessional partnerships to mitigate disruptive patient and family behavior. Extend key improvement (KI) initiatives related to flexible work environments for nurses at all levels. Foster an environment that supports psychological safety limiting physical and emotional risk (lateral violence).

NM Goal 4: Deepen Relationships with our Community to Reduce Barriers to Health

  • Nursing Goal: Advocate for Health Equity Across the Continuum of Care
    Objectives: Partner with the Office of Health Equity and utilize community needs assessments to advance strategies that reduce barriers and bridge gaps associated with social determinants of health. Build a diverse workforce with cultural and social sensitivity.

NM Goal 5: Fund Our Mission and Reinvest in the Enterprise.

  • Nursing Goal: Cultivate Fiscal Stewardship and Sustainability in Nursing.
    Objectives: Optimize nursing engagement in the utilization of sustainable resources. Utilize staff engagement data to develop and implement recognition efforts to improve retention. Partner with Finance team to optimize safe care delivery models (labor productivity, staffing, etc.).
