What to Expect

At Northwestern Medicine, we are committed to excellent care. An important part of that is reducing the incidence and impact of healthcare-associated infections and occupational exposures.

Our team of infection preventionists include nurses, public health professionals, epidemiologists, microbiologists and medical technologists who:

  • Gather and track health data to pinpoint infection trends, plan appropriate interventions, measure success and report relevant findings to public health agencies.
  • Establish infection prevention practices and collaborate with our healthcare teams to ensure implementation.
  • Work to prevent healthcare-associated infections in our facilities by isolating sources of infections and limiting their transmission.
  • Educate healthcare personnel and the public about infectious diseases and how to limit their spread.
