Northwestern Medicine Proton Center

Overview

The Northwestern Medicine Proton Center* is the first and only proton therapy center in Illinois to bring innovative proton radiation treatment to patients.

Proton therapy is an advanced form of radiation therapy offering precision treatment with fewer side effects. It has been shown to be effective in treating certain types of cancerous tumors and some non-cancerous tumors and malformations, such as tangled blood vessels. The following tumors are the ones that often benefit from proton therapy, including:

  • Prostate
  • Brain
  • Breast cancer and tumors
  • Pediatric
  • Head and neck
  • Base of skull
  • Spinal
  • Melanoma of the eye
  • Lung
  • Gastrointestinal
