Kishwaukee Hospital Emergency Department Renovation Project in Progress

We are rebuilding our Emergency Department so it can remain a world-class facility that meets the growing needs of our community. The remodel will help our incredible emergency medicine team provide you an even higher level of care.

Renovations include changing the current department layout, which will help reduce wait times. The new Kishwaukee Hospital Emergency Department will have 28 rooms, 3 holding bays and 3 results-waiting bays, for a total of 34 treatment areas. In addition, 7 hall stations will be equipped for overflow. Plans also include a dedicated behavioral health suite, fast-track rooms and state-of-the-art trauma and examination rooms. The renovations will happen in three phases, because our goal is to maintain the same level of emergency care. The first phase (mid-March through mid-October) will be the most visible to you. The other two phases will be complete in Fall 2022.

Overview

Whether it’s for chest pain, trauma, or urgent care, emergency physicians are available 24/7 in the Kishwaukee Hospital Emergency Department.

24-hour services include:

  • Lab
  • Radiology
  • Pharmacy
  • Social services
  • Hospitalist (if admission is necessary)

As soon as you walk in the door, an emergency medical technician will greet you at the reception desk, assess the nature of your injury or illness and determine next steps. People with the most critical conditions are treated first.

Flu Season Alert

If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider to determine appropriate testing and treatment for flu. Learn more about when to seek medical care for flu-like symptoms.

While patient volumes will fluctuate throughout the flu season, current Emergency Department wait-times have stabilized. Thank you for your patience.
