Northwestern Medicine Text Message Terms and Conditions
Effective Date: January 1, 2025
If you have a medical emergency, dial 911. Do not send a text message.
In MyNM, you can tell us how you prefer we communicate with you. You can update your cellphone (mobile) number and other information.
You can sign up for SMS (short message service) text messages from Northwestern Medicine.
If you opt in to text messages from Northwestern Medicine, you will get text messages about your relationship with us.
How to opt in to text messages
You can opt in to 2 types of text messages from Northwestern Medicine.
By texting START to 61979, you will opt in to get these alerts:
- Visit information and appointment reminders
- MyNM alerts
- One-time passcodes to authenticate your login to MyNM
By texting START to 62527, you will opt in to get these alerts:
- Management of your health
How to opt out of text messages
- To stop getting these kinds of text messages from Northwestern Medicine, text STOP to both short code numbers (61979 and 62527).
- To stop getting text messages from just 1 of the numbers, text STOP to that number.
- You will get a final message to confirm you will no longer get these text messages.
- You will no longer get text messages from the short code number(s) you opted out from.
- If you want to join again, you can sign up through your MyNM account or text HELP to the short code number.

If you need help with text messages from Northwestern Medicine, you can:
- Reply HELP to 1 of the text messages
- Call 855.HLP.MYNM (855.457.6966, TTY: 711)
You also should know
If your mobile number changes, you should update it in your MyNM account right away.
- After you log in, go to the Menu > Account Settings > Communication Preferences.
- Northwestern Medicine is not responsible for sending text messages to the wrong number if your number has changed and you did not change it in MyNM.
You may get other text messages from Northwestern Medicine, such as patient surveys from 312.945.0890.
Text messages may include protected health information (PHI).
- These text messages are not encrypted.
- They can be accessed and read by anyone with access to messages on your mobile device.
- You should use a password on your mobile device to be sure you are the only person that can see your text messages.
Carriers and Northwestern Medicine are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. The number of messages we send may vary.
