Screening Breast MRI

Screening Breast MRI

If you’re at high risk for breast cancer, or if you have extremely dense breast tissue, breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be recommended.

Breast MRI use magnets and a computer (not radiation) to create detailed images of your breast tissue. A contrast agent (gadolinium) is injected into your veins during the test so that areas of concern appear bright on the MRI. The breast radiologist will review the images later in the day after the computer obtains all the information from the examination.
