Symptoms of Dystonia

Dystonia symptoms may differ significantly from patient to patient, depending on the region of the body affected and the severity of the condition. Symptoms typically include:

  • Involuntary muscle contractions
  • Involuntary twisting movements
  • Spasmodic torticollis (tightness or pulling in the side of the neck)
  • Blepharospasm (uncontrollable, fast blinking of the eyelids)
  • Spasmodic dysphonia (voice tremor)
  • Meige syndrome (involuntary movements of the jaw or lower face)

Symptoms of dystonia can worsen if you are fatigued or stressed.
