Our mission

  • A grandfather with Parkinson's disease looking at a tablet with his son.To provide innovative, multidisciplinary care for patients and families affected by Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders
  • To promote health, education and support for patients, caregivers, family members, healthcare providers and the community
  • To conduct pre-clinical and clinical research in order to extend the knowledge and treatment of movement disorders

Comprehensive care model

As a patient's condition becomes more complex, the number of health professionals involved increases. It can be challenging for both patient and family to manage numerous appointments in various locations. At the same time, research shows that when professionals work together, the result is increased health outcomes, quality of care and decreased cost.

At our National Parkinson Foundation Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Centers of Excellence, we are proud to be in the forefront of comprehensive, integrated care delivery. We seek to meet our patients' needs not only in the medical management of the disease, but also in patients and families' overall quality of life. That includes a multidisciplinary approach that features:

  • Physical therapy and exercise programs
  • Occupational therapy
  • Education and support groups
  • Counseling
  • Caregiver support
  • Access to community services
  • Voice and swallowing therapies
  • Nutritional recommendations
  • Neurosurgical (deep brain stimulation) evaluations
  • Complementary practices such as yoga, massage, acupuncture
  • Genetic testing and counseling

We offer this spectrum of care in one location, with a multidisciplinary team that collaborates face-to-face and routinely. This collaboration leads to:

  • Regular communication
  • Defined roles for each specialty
  • Focus on the patient's needs
  • Professionals learning from one another
  • Seamless patient care

We know that movement disorders can affect a patient and family in many areas of their lives, so we treat them in a holistic way to meet the needs of the whole person.
