Overview
What Is Dupuytren’s Contracture?
Dupuytren’s contracture (also called Dupuytren disease) is when the skin of palm of your hand at the base of your fingers thickens. This thickened tissue may become a hard lump or a cord-like band. Over time, it can cause one or more fingers to curl or pull sideways or inward to your palm.
The condition most commonly affects the ring and little fingers. It often affects both hands. In rare cases, a similar condition can affect the feet. This is called Ledderhose disease.
Dupuytren contracture is not life-threatening, but it can significantly affect your quality of life and your ability to use your hand(s).
