Who We Are

At Northwestern Medicine Specialty Pharmacy, our team of pharmacists and patient care advocates (PCAs) are dedicated to providing quality and efficient care to you. Our staff is composed of highly trained, experienced, certified, and licensed pharmacists and PCAs.

Our PCAs are available to help you every step of the way. Obtaining specialized medications is not always easy. Once your insurance benefits are verified, our PCAs work to get your prior authorization complete.

Our pharmacy can coordinate with your private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid to make sure you have access to your medications when you need them.

PCAs help with the complicated billing process for your specialty medications while working closely with your private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.

We take pride in finding the most cost effective way to obtain your medications with the help of co-pay or patient assistance programs if you qualify.

Many of our pharmacists work directly in Northwestern Medicine specialty clinics, such as those for infectious diseases, inflammatory conditions, Hepatology and Oncology. Our pharmacists have expertise in these clinical areas, as well as in many other medical specialties. They are here to counsel you, monitor your medications and help you adhere to your treatment.

We are part of your care team. Our pharmacists are in direct contact with your healthcare team. They monitor your laboratory results and review healthcare provider progress notes to optimize your drug therapy.

Therapy Management

Many specialty medications treat complex or rare conditions and require high touch patient care with ongoing clinical support.

Therapy Management programs ensure optimum therapeutic outcomes through improved medication use, which helps reduce adverse drug events (ADE). At Northwestern Medicine Specialty Pharmacy, our pharmacists will conduct assessments to make sure our patients are following guidelines for the best results.

Our team of pharmacists and patient care advocates (PCA) communicate directly with your medical team and monitor your treatment using the same systems your physician uses to document your medical care. We are committed to making sure your treatment is monitored closely to help you achieve the best possible outcome.

We review your medications to avoid potential drug interactions and communicate any issues to you and your healthcare team.

Our pharmacists counsel you personally when you start a new medication and regularly follows up with you via phone to monitor your treatment. We also provide educational materials to assist you in learning about your medications.

Our pharmacists are available 24 hours a day to address your concerns and communicate them back to your healthcare team.

Our PCAs will call you with refill reminders. You’ll never have to worry about being without your medication.

Our goal is to help you adhere to your medications so that you can improve your overall health.
