Dr. Akhter is simply wonderful. I'm so grateful for her professionalism, patience and desire to really work with you. Everyone at NWM has been so great to work with ... from the time you arrive until the time that you leave.

As I shared before, Dr. Akhter is a wonderful and knowledgeable physician and human being. NM is lucky to have her and I wish every provider was like her. Maybe promote her as a medical director to replicate her and advance an amazing culture.

I had open heart surgery in 2017. Dr. Akhter has been my cardiologist throughout this time. She is the person who enabled me to have my surgery with Dr. McCarthy. I admire her expertise, her knowledge, her compassionate nature and her sense of humor. I trust her.She listens carefully to me and addresses each question that I ask.

She is awesome! Listens and recommends, listens to my thoughts and finds ways to make it happen. I worry about the damage that my breast cancer treatments have damaged my heart but I feel like Dr. Akhter is coming me healthy!

She is highly qualified in the newest research and treatments for women with both heart disease and breast cancer. She explained the possibilities and concerns, changed out one medication and devised a workable plan for moving forward

Dr. Akhter seemed genuinely interested in improving my health. She asked pertinent questions, and listened closely to my answers. She explained things well, and I felt liked she tailored the steps in my treatment to my individual needs. (rather than a one-step-fits-all approach). She is extremely pleasant!

She is very thorough. Looks back at all previous test results and answers all questions. Just recently, I had been to another cardiologist at a different hospital and you can tell why Dr. Akhter is super.

Patient, thoughtful, kind, caring. She really took the time prior to my visit to learn about prior test. She also thoroughly went through Mychart to make sure of the facts surrounding my referral by Dr. Mehta.

External Professional Relationships
Pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies frequently collaborate with basic scientists and physicians within an academic medical center to help advance science and improve patient care. These relationships are important in achieving scientific breakthroughs and in establishing the effectiveness and safety of promising new therapies. In order to assure objectivity in clinical research and patient care, the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg), Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have adopted integrity policies that require research and clinical faculty (in full-time, part-time, and unpaid/voluntary categories) to report compensated and uncompensated external industry relationships. Patients are encouraged to discuss these disclosures with their physician as well as to inquire as to how these relationships are overseen by Feinberg. To learn more about our Disclosure and Professional Integrity Policy, and the conflict of interest policies of our joint affiliate survey partners, please go to our Office for Regulatory Affairs Policies page.
