Bio

Dr. Akthar has experience with a broad range of radiation therapy techniques, with a clinical focus on proton therapy, head and neck cancers, prostate cancer and complex re-irradiation cases. He approaches patient care by listening closely to patients’ concerns and working collaboratively to develop individualized treatment plans. He strives to balance effective cancer treatment with preserving quality of life. Dr. Akthar values building trust through open, clear communication. He works closely with surgeons, medical oncologists and other specialists to design comprehensive treatment plans. He wants patients to feel supported and never have to navigate complex decisions alone. Dr. Akthar is director of Research and Education for Northwestern Medicine Radiation Oncology in the west region. He is committed to expanding access to innovative therapies through clinical trials and educating the next generation of physicians. Outside of medicine, Dr. Akthar enjoys spending time with his wife and children, traveling, cooking, staying active and being involved in his community.
